Plumbing Course Learner Review

Good value for money and excellent tutor. Definitely recommending to others. Everything i’ve learnt I was interested in and I think this course has helped to improve my confidence in the career I choose.

Mr Bloy, Plumbing course

You are welcome to arrange to visit our centre to see one of our plumbing courses in action and see the high standard of work that all learners achieve.  Our  courses are limited to 10 people and they fill up quickly so visit now and book a place.  Join thousands of satisfied customers who have learned a trade with us.

Our 10 day plumbing course is aimed at people who have little or no previous experience in plumbing.

The course aim is to give you confidence to complete installations using copper pipe and soldered fittings, using speedfit pipe and fittings and using compression fittings and flexi-hoses. You gain this confidence by completing installations in realistic training bays, one day one you will practice soldering and from day 2 you will start installing your first full bathroom suite.  This 10 day course includes: installing a bathroom suite, completing maintenance work and related theory, installing showers, connecting radiators and designing and installing heating systems up to a boiler jig.

This course has an excellent mix of practical training and supporting knowledge training, as it is one thing learning how to practically complete plumbing work but it is another thing knowing the related theory so that you complete the work with no problems and no call backs due to poor work due to poor knowledge.

There are no more than 13 people on a course at any one time and each person will have their own training bay, tools and materials.

During this plumbing course you will have your own training bay to complete your own bathroom installations and heating system.  This plumbing course is delivered by a gas-safe registered plumbing and heating engineer.  He will teach you the correct way to complete work so that you are able to complete work to a high standard.  You will not be using benches and vices to complete soldering work as there are no benches and vices in the real world when you are installing a bathroom.

During this plumbing course you will:

  • Install a full bathroom suite comprising of a bath, basin, and toilet using copper pipe and soldered end feed fittings, speedfit, compression fitted isolation valves and flexi-hoses.
  • Level a bath.
  • Install a shower.
  • Correctly apply silicone.
  • Remove a bathroom suite.
  • Be able to repair and replace taps, float valves, flushing valves.
  • Complete basic pipe bending.
  • Hang and pipe up a radiator including sealing parallel and tapered threads, connecting union radiator tails, and installing TRVs.
  • Know how to correctly remove and replace a radiator on a live system.
  • Install a heating system pipework and components up to a boiler jig.
  • Understand how to install monobloc taps.
  • Understand how water enters a property and how to find internal stop taps.
  • Understand pressure and flow rates and how this affects what components you should install such as taps and showers.
  • Understand direct and indirect hot and cold water systems and assess which components are suitable for each system.
  • Understand soil stacks, waste pipe and fittings, traps and u-bends; identify components, understand sizing and layouts, understand how and why faults occur.
  • Understand different showers available, their suitability for different systems and how to install them.
  • Understand the components and their positioning within a fully pumped heating system.
  • Understand efficient control of heating systems.
  • Understand microbore and two pipe systems, use rule of thumb pipe sizing techniques, and how to balance heating systems.
  • Understand how to drain and fill a heating system.
  • Identify and understand the operation of the integral parts of a central heating system.
  • Understand how to correctly plan and prepare plumbing projects, including the tools and materials needed, time frames and material costs.
  • Understand the different methods used to price jobs, deal with customers, and overcome problems that may arise.
  • Students will also be provided with support after completing their plumbing course and are able to contact their tutor by phone, email or WhatsApp, or arrange to visit the training centre to discuss their queries.
  • Fully answer all questions related to the trade. The course is taught by an experienced gas safe plumbing and heating engineer with a passion for the trade and we encourage learners to ask as many questions as they wish during the course.

The cost of this plumbing course is £1150 INC VAT.

You only need to bring yourself, work clothes and footwear and your lunch, we will provide everything else.

Support provided when choosing a course

We will provide you with as much information, advice and guidance as we possibly can and if we are not able to offer you the course that best suits your needs or give you the information you require we will signpost you to somewhere that is able to. We do not pressure you to book onto any course and if we feel that you would be better suited to a course we do not offer then we will give you the contact information of a college that does.

Hopefully the majority of the information you require is available on this website but if you have any questions at all then please contact us and we will help in any way we can.

We would like to invite you to attend the training centre to view the facilities and discuss the course with both the tutors and current learners. We suggest if possible that you visit our centre towards the end of a course as people in general are always happy at the beginning of training and you want to make sure that they are as happy at the end of the course. When you visit you will be free to discuss the course with current learners on a 1-to-1 basis, if someone has paid good money or used limited funding to attend a course and they are not happy they will definitely tell you. If you visit towards the end of a course you will also be able to see the standard that everyone on the course has achieved.

One of the most popular comments we receive on questionnaires is that people did not expect to reach the high standard that they do on a course, it is also one of the most popular negative comments that we receive by people who are not aware of what we offer as they will say ‘you won’t be any good after 10 days’, if you yourself are unsure then why not pop down for a pressure free look around.

During Training

During your time with us every member of staff will do their best to help you achieve your aims. You will be provided with supporting literature relating to your trade and have access to further reading to research the trade further in your own time.

If you struggle on any element of the course then we will provide additional training at no extra cost to ensure that you reach the required standard.

If you have any learning difficulties or disabilities or have any physical difficulties or disabilities then we will support you throughout and this additional support will remain between the centre and the individual. The majority of the training courses are practical based but if you do have any concerns then please contact the centre.

We will also provide you with additional IAG relating to progression routes available after completing the course including further training, finding employment and starting to work for yourself. Whilst on a course please contact a member of staff if you require any further in information.Whilst you are at the centre there may be other courses running so if you have any questions relating to another trade please feel free to speak to the relevant tutor – they are all here to help you.

After Training

We will continue supporting you after you have completed a course with us and you can contact us either by email, phone or in person to discuss any aspects that you covered on your course. For example you may wish to contact us to clarify how to complete a job or how to price a job or maybe to ask for information on writing a business plan.

Your tutors will give you their contact telephone numbers and email address so if you have any questions at all you can give them a call. It is invaluable to have this continuous support available and will give you the confidence to complete work away from the centre.

The commitment to putting the needs of learners at the heart of everything the service does was demonstrated in the ways support is provided. Extract from Matrix Assessment Report

Learning a new skill was what I needed to better my chances for a career change.  The tutor and college made every aspect of the course interesting/useful from start to finish.  Probably one of the most understanding companies I’ve come across. Helped me with health issues whilst on course – Martin Pearson

Below is feedback from people who have attended our plumbing courses.

All feedback forms from everyone who completes our courses are available at the centre.

What I liked about the college was: Friendly staff & tutors, enough space to work in, provision of all tools and materials needed, facilities.  The most interesting was practical – seeing and doing things for yourself.  The most useful were classroom activities to back it up and test knowledge.  Darren Sharp, Plumbing and heating course

The theory side was very useful, giving an excellent all round knowledge of plumbing and heating.  Excellent value for money.  Mat Dale, Plumbing and heating course

The most interesting/useful part of the training was the theory lesson aided by frequent practical hands on teaching.  Nice comfortable working environment & more importantly the standard you achieve.  K. Gaucham, Plumbing and heating course

The college is a friendly place focused on ensuring that the learner experience is enjoyable, understandable and transferable from the classroom to the workplace.  Although a novice in plumbing I did not feel at a disadvantage and the tutor was skilful in adapting his approach to accommodate the varying skill levels of his students.  This has been a tremendous experience.  the practical exercises have provided an excellent simulation of likely scenarios in the workplace and home.  The tutoring style is such that every student is encouraged to give it a go without worrying about getting it wrong and learning in a positive way through mistakes.  D Martin, Plumbing and heating course

As a teacher in the road haulage industry I am familiar with various teaching techniques.  i thought that the tutor on this course excelled in every sense.  The planning, delivery, knowledge, materials were excellent.  Simon Hackney, Plumbing and heating course

I just wanted to send you a thank you especially Alan Marshall who was our tutor!!!  I started a plumbing course on 10th December 2012 with very little experience or knowledge of plumbing and by the end of the course could plumb in a bathroom and fit a central heating system……without Alans considerable expert knowledge and teaching methods there is no way that I could have done this!!!!  So just a huge thank you to the college and in particular to Alan Marshall……  Wishing you a very Merry Xmas and a happy new year!  Regards  Chris Pryor, Plumbing Course

All of the course was intense, however all the practical sessions cement the knowledge learned in the classroom.  The ability to relate to the learner. I had to take a day off for an interview and the college facilitated this with no effect on my learning  Mr Davey, Plumbing course feedback

Tutor extremely experienced with knowledge of all areas of plumbing conveys the teaching in a humorous but simple way that allstudents were able to understand.  Tutors should be congratulated on his dedication and teaching of the course.  Practical aspects are excellent.  Fault finding and basic maintenance and repair is very useful.  Mark Wagstaff, Plumbing course feedback

Mr North, Plumbing course

Excellent instruction.  I did not expect to learn as much in a two week course.  Colin Richardson, Plumbing course

I have just completed the 2 week plumbing course under the guidance and tuition of Alan Marshall.
I’d like to take this opportunity to say how delighted I am with the quality of the course and the knowledge I have gained from it. I feel the main reason for this is without doubt the level of commitment shown by course tutor Alan Marshall. Alan has a depth of knowledge with all aspects of plumbing that is second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. If anyone on the course had any difficulties, Alan was always at hand to talk them through things and guide them along until they understood.  Upon completion of the various modules in the course, it was extremely rewarding to stand back and appreciate that I myself had actually done the work. Something I would not have believed possible before the course.  Please pass on my kindest regards and huge thanks to Alan for all his help and expert tuition.  Many thanks also to yourself for assisting me when booking on this course, and also to David Hare for arranging these courses. I have every intention of broadening my skills further by attending a plastering course & electrical course in the near future. Maybe even the tilting course !  Sincerely, Bryn Willetts, Plumbing course

The course was extremely well taught and all demonstrations allowed me to understand the theory which had been taught during an excellent course.  Edward Rooke, Plumbing course

Instructors are experienced and knowledgable.  Steve did well to get quite a lot of information across and balance it with the practical side; this helped sustain concentration and interest.  Roger Pearson, Plumbing course

I have just finished off today the two weeks plumbing training course at your wolverhampton centre, I just wanted to let you know this has been far most the best plumbing training course I have ever attended, Very high training standards and value for money.  The tutor Alan Marshall is not just a master of the plumbing trade he is also a phenomenon tutor, he makes learning fun, and the way he portrays his teaching is out of this world, Alan Marshall is not just a Master Plumber he is a Master Tutor, He goes the extra mile to ensure the student has fully understood the full process of plumbing, and ensures each and every student gets individual attention. The amount of plumbing knowledge I have gained with in this two weeks is amazing, I can only only Thank Alan for this .This gentleman is a credit to your company.  I am so pleased with the way I have been trained as a student, I will be looking to booking further courses with your training centre in the very near future, as I have attended colleges in the past and you do not even get the attention or training I have received from your training centre.  Once again I would like to personally thank Alan Marshall (master plumbing tutor) for all what he has done for me.  Kind regards  Shaun Yaqub, Plumbing Course

It is clear that feedback plays an important role in monitoring and evaluating services and I reviewed a large number of feedback questionnaires and analyses which confirmed that you collect feedback and all showed high levels of satisfaction.  Extract from Matrix Assessment Report

I understand how water and heating systems work. The problem solving has been very useful. The tutor had the time to go over things with you if needed and explained things very well. He made the whole course very enjoyable.  Annie Phillips, Plumbing Course

Good class group. I feel confident and my plumbing knowledge has improved. Good course  Ms Bradshaw, Plumbing Course

This course was a valuable investment of my time because I know nothing about plumbing and I prefer to learn in a practical way. The course content was excellent for the basic plumbing – the course covered all you need to know. I have looked into quite a few courses which all seemed expensive or theory orientated.  Mr Halvey,  Plumbing Course

I could complete the required tasks without being rushed. Very informative. I feel confident to complete a plumbing job because I’ve taught the right way to it with greater ease. I will definitely recommend this course to others.  Mr Newbon, Plumbing Course

The course taught me the basics of plumbing. I am confident to do these skills at home and for friends. The tutor is a credit to Construction Skills College Ltd. He is a very friendly man who always checked on you and helped you. I will recommend the plumbing course, especially because of the price it costs now for a professional.  Mr Scarratt, Plumbing Course

Very good course. I’ve been taught a lot in one week. Very good investment. Very good instruction. If you wanted to know something, nothing was too much trouble for the instructor. Highly recommendable  Mr Wilkes, Plumbing Course

I found the course to by really good, picking up a lot of useful tips and ideas. I didn’t know anything about plumbing before this course so my understanding has been increased considerably. I feel a lot more confident now after attending the course.  Mr Brayford, Plumbing Course

I found the course very helpful. There were a lot of areas covered and I was pleased with the helpfulness of the tutor we had. We were kept busy at all times. The course is hands on so it’s good experience actually doing it rather than just reading about it.  Mr Sheldon, Plumbing Course

I learned how to fit a bathroom, bend pipes, solder and use speed fit. If anybody was interested in plumbing I would advise them to come to this course.  Mr Wemyss, Plumbing Course

I found the course spot on. As somebody who questions everything, and having to be shown things at least twice, I came out of the course knowing enough to give me confidence. I like the fact we were allowed to make mistakes therefore important facts were firmly pushed home.  Mr James, Plumbing Course

Plumbing is something I’ve never done before and will use it to expand my business. Any questions or instructions were given clearly and the tutor always took his time to make sure I would understand. I had no idea what to expect but the course covered more than I thought.  Mr Jones, Plumbing Course

I looked at fitting a bathroom suite at home and also some friends have asked me to do theirs so now I have a good understanding of the basic skills. I enjoyed the entire course. It was worth the cost.  Mr Green, Plumbing Course

I have gained a good knowledge of plumbing. From not knowing anything about plumbing to being able to fit a bathroom suite is a considerable increase of my understanding of the subject. The tutor was around to help if we needed it. The course is well worth attending even if just doing your own domestic plumbing. I have really enjoyed this course and I would recommend it to anyone.  Mr McMullen, Plumbing Course

I learned new skills and will help in my current role at work. Every day problems can be solved easily without the need of calling professionals. The course was in depth and I have every confidence doing everything we covered.  Mr Dyas, Plumbing Course

You are Taught by Experienced Tradespeople.

Our plumbing courses are intensive but taught in a relaxed, friendly and professional manner by experienced plumbing and heating engineers.  We will fully support you when you finish your training course so you will be confident using your new found skills, after completing any plumbing training with us you are able to call into the centre or contact your tutor directly to discuss anything that you covered on your course.

More Training for your Money.

Although our plumbing courses are short they are very intensive and you will be in your bays soldering on day 1.  The only way you are going to learn to solder is by having a blowtorch in your hand and practicing, practicing, practicing.

It is very important to know about the different plumbing systems within a property and how this affects the work you plan to complete.  For example, one shower may be suitable for one property but not another.  It is also important to know how to complete repairs and maintenance work.  Our courses are a good mix of theory and practical and are delivered by a gas-safe plumbing and heating engineer who has over 35 years experience of working in the trade and still has his own plumbing company and over 15 years experience teaching plumbing courses at our centre.

Regular Start Dates.

We have plumbing courses starting every two weeks, throughout the year.  We do not close for bank holidays, half terms, college summer holidays.  We only close for two weeks at Christmas.  Please feel free to contact Dave on 01782 837007 or via enquiries@tradeteacher.co.uk or dave.hare@tradeteacher.co.uk and he will work with you to plan dates.

The course was packed with incredibly useful information, providing me with more details, content and understanding than I thought possible in 2 weeks.  Outstanding content.  The instruction is exceptionally good and the atmosphere is welcoming with a tremendous fun, but hard working & professional learning environment.  This is my second course here – I have been genuinely gobsmacked at the quality, depth and skill of the instructors as well as the tremendous content covered during the course.  I am extremely impressed and hope to come back for courses in the future.  John Townsend, 10 day plumbing and heating course

PI would recommend this course to others.  Great instruction throughout the course and loads of additional help with own projects.  Anyone wishing to get into this industry I think it is a great place to learn. Gavin Revel, 10 day plumbing and heating course

I came to gain confidence in copper piping but found the holistic approach to all tasks very enlightening.  Each distinct job was put into the whole system context.  As a retired surveyor I had a (loose) grasp of plumbing systems but found this course brilliant.  Exceeded my expectations.  Gained the necessary confidence to tackle what I previously considered big complex tasks. Mr P Lilley, 10 day plumbing and heating course
