person highlighting where two worktops join

We have trained over 1,385 learners using ELC funding, our feedback is excellent and our average evaluation score on the ELCAS website is showing as 98% from 857 evaluation form returned.

On 23rd September 2021 we had an ELCAS Provider Quality Audit, and the outcome was that we had no resultant actions as a result of the audit.  During the audit, student evaluation since April 2019 was discussed.  During this time 281 evaluations were returned to ELCAS 278 (98.9%) said they would use the learning provider again / recommend them to a colleague, 3 said they didn’t know.

We put a lot of effort into supporting service leavers to ensure they are on a course which is suitable for them and offer all service leavers ongoing support after they have completed their course.  This has led to many service leavers progressing into employment and self-employment.

Learner Review

Since completing the course I have become a self-employed kitchen fitter undertaking numerous kitchen installations both privately and sub- contracting to companies such as Enterprise and JT Tomlinson. Overall, if anyone is thinking about becoming a kitchen fitter then this is a great course to attend.

You are welcome to arrange to visit our centre to see ELC funded courses in action and see the high standard of work that all learners achieve.  Our  courses are limited to 10 people and they fill up quickly so visit now and book a place.  Join thousands of satisfied customers who have learned a trade with us.

We offer a 30 day Level 3 Certificate in Kitchen Installation Skills course which includes training and level 3 accredited qualification in kitchen installation skills, including units in kitchen fitting, plumbing and wall and floor tiling (it is possible to swap either plumbing or tiling for plastering if you wish).  This course is proving popular because:

  • Customers prefer to use one trades person to complete projects such as modernising a kitchen rather than arrange a tiler, plumber and kitchen fitter to complete the work.
  • If you are multi-skilled then you are able to obtain work either plumbing, kitchen fitting or tiling separately or as a package which increases the jobs you are able to quote for.
  • If you are successful in obtaining a complete project such as modernising a kitchen then that one job will give you several days / couple of weeks work which can be preferable to several one / two day jobs.

You will complete the 3 from the following 10-day courses

Kitchen Fitting, 10 days (mandatory)
Plastering, 10 days
Wall & Floor Tiling, 10 days
Plumbing and Heating, 10 days

All trades are taught as 10-day courses delivered over 2 consecutive weeks, Monday to Friday.  You can complete the training as either as a 6-week block or split into separate 2-week courses completed over 12 months.

Support provided when choosing a course

We will provide you with as much information, advice and guidance as we possibly can and if we are not able to offer you the course that best suits your needs or give you the information you require we will signpost you to somewhere that is able to. We do not pressure you to book onto any course and if we feel that you would be better suited to a course we do not offer then we will give you the contact information of a college that does.

Hopefully the majority of the information you require is available on this website but if you have any questions at all then please contact us and we will help in any way we can.

We would like to invite you to attend the training centre to view the facilities and discuss the course with both the tutors and current learners. We suggest if possible that you visit our centre towards the end of a course as people in general are always happy at the beginning of training and you want to make sure that they are as happy at the end of the course. When you visit you will be free to discuss the course with current learners on a 1-to-1 basis, if someone has paid good money or used limited funding to attend a course and they are not happy they will definitely tell you. If you visit towards the end of a course you will also be able to see the standard that everyone on the course has achieved.

One of the most popular comments we receive on questionnaires is that people did not expect to reach the high standard that they do on a course, it is also one of the most popular negative comments that we receive by people who are not aware of what we offer as they will say ‘you won’t be any good after 10 days’, if you yourself are unsure then why not pop down for a pressure free look around.

During Training

During your time with us every member of staff will do their best to help you achieve your aims. You will be provided with supporting literature relating to your trade and have access to further reading to research the trade further in your own time.

If you struggle on any element of the course then we will provide additional training at no extra cost to ensure that you reach the required standard.

If you have any learning difficulties or disabilities or have any physical difficulties or disabilities then we will support you throughout and this additional support will remain between the centre and the individual. The majority of the training courses are practical based but if you do have any concerns then please contact the centre.

We will also provide you with additional IAG relating to progression routes available after completing the course including further training, finding employment and starting to work for yourself. Whilst on a course please contact a member of staff if you require any further in information.Whilst you are at the centre there may be other courses running so if you have any questions relating to another trade please feel free to speak to the relevant tutor – they are all here to help you.

After Training

We will continue supporting you after you have completed a course with us and you can contact us either by email, phone or in person to discuss any aspects that you covered on your course. For example you may wish to contact us to clarify how to complete a job or how to price a job or maybe to ask for information on writing a business plan.

Your tutors will give you their contact telephone numbers and email address so if you have any questions at all you can give them a call. It is invaluable to have this continuous support available and will give you the confidence to complete work away from the centre.

The commitment to putting the needs of learners at the heart of everything the service does was demonstrated in the ways support is provided. Extract from Matrix Assessment Report

The tools and parts provided were of a high standard to conduct the practical training. The training was outstanding from the start to finish. The course is delivered to all levels of experience and adapted to individual needs, allowing progression at a personal level. ELC learner 11/21

I attended a Wall & Floor Tiling course (16 – 27 Aug 21) and a Carpentry Course (08 – 19 Nov 21). Both these courses were extremely professionally delivered and in an excellent training environment, these exceeded my expectations. I feel that I have learnt the skills I require to competently and confidently move forward in to this area of work when I leave the service. I would commend any service leaver interested in construction disciplines to choose the Construction Skills College.  ELC learner 11/21

Extremely well-taught modules – yet again (this time as study for a Diploma) the tutors of all 3 of my modules were very professional, and were able adapt the teaching to ensure that all students reached the same (high) level of achievement at the end of each section of training. It was obvious that the students’ needs were paramount, and CSC were able to take both novices and experienced individuals alike and achieve great results for both cohorts of learners. A great place to study, and my thanks to CSC. ELC learner 11/21

I attended 3 courses provided by this company, all were extremely professionally presented and delivered in a friendly and effective manner. The split between theory and practical hands on activity was well managed and appropriate.
I have no negative comments and I have already recommended these courses to other service leavers.   ELC learner 11/21

You are Taught by Experienced Tradespeople.

Our courses are intensive but taught in a relaxed, friendly and professional manner by experienced tradespeople.  We will fully support you when you finish your training course so you will be confident using your new found skills, after completing any training with us you are able to call into the centre or contact your tutor directly to discuss anything that you covered on your course.

More Training for your Money.

Less classroom time, more tools in hands time.  Although our courses are short they are very intensive and you will be completing practical work from day 1.  The only way you are going to learn is by having expert advice and lots of practical time to practice, practice, practice.

It is also important when completing a course that you are working in a good sized area as this give you the confidence to complete work when you leave the centre.  When deciding on which training centre to attend take the time to compare sizes of training bays and visit a centre when a course is on to speak with learners and see the standard of with the produce.

Regular Start Dates.

We have courses starting every two weeks, throughout the year.  We do not close for bank holidays, half terms, college summer holidays.  We only close for two weeks at Christmas.  Please feel free to contact Dave on 01782 837007 or via enquiries@tradeteacher.co.uk or dave.hare@tradeteacher.co.uk and he will work with you to plan dates.

An excellent learning provider who I will definitely be recommending to my colleagues. The tutors are extremely knowledgeable and were able to pass this on to all students during their modules.  The college is excellent and has everything that is needed to successfully complete the courses. It has a welcoming atmosphere and all staff are extremely helpful and want everyone there to succeed. ELC learner 06/22

This is my last of three courses completed.  I want to say a massive thank you to you all for sharing your vast knowledge on all of the courses covered.  I love how relaxed an environment the college has, all of the tutors are very friendly and welcoming, they always go that extra mile.  There was always an abundance of materials for the course.  I have already recommended the the course to others. D Harris, ELC course.

Based on my own (military) experience, I never found the time to learn and develop my DIY skills.  I would encourage many of my colleagues to attend these courses, which are valuable life skills. JM, ELC funded learner
