Electrical Course Learner Review

I was nervous about doing this course as electrics have always confused me, not now.  Dave’s instruction, the gradual accumulation of knowledge & application to real life has been great.  I found the most useful the problem solving at the end – helping me to apply learning & show I could use it to solve a real-life problem.  I would recommend this course to others.

P LeFeuvre, April 2025, Electrical course

You are welcome to arrange to visit our centre to see one of our electrical courses in action and see the high standard of work that all learners achieve.  Our  courses are limited to 10 people and they fill up quickly so visit now and book a place.  Join thousands of satisfied customers who have learned a trade with us.

Our 9-day introduction to domestic electrical installations course is aimed at people who have little or no previous experience.

The course aim is to give you confidence to complete non-notifiable electrical work and also understand how to complete notifiable work (please note you will need further training and experience to be able to complete and sign off notifiable work).

You have your own training boards to work on and your own tools and materials.  The tutor is an experienced electrician who still runs his own electrical company, so you can be sure you are being taught to latest regulations.

This course has an excellent mix of practical training and supporting knowledge training, as it is one thing learning how to practically complete electrical work but it is another thing knowing the related theory so that you know how to complete the work correctly and safely.

During this 9-day course you will complete the following.

  • Understand and use different tools so that you are confident in using them which will improve the quality of your work and the reduce the time it takes.
  • Understand and use materials and components so you know how to select the correct materials for different tasks.
  • Understand circuit theory such as radial circuits, ring final circuits, lighting systems including loop in pendant, loop in switch and junction box method.
  • Safe Isolation procedures so you know how to safely work on electrical installations.
  • Electrical calculations needed so you are able to select the correct components, cable etc.
  • Applicable building regulations
  • Zoning and selection of equipment
  • Install a radial power circuit
  • Install ring final circuit
  • Install 1-way lighting circuits
  • Install 2-way lighting circuits
  • Install a 2-way lighting with intermediate switch
  • Swap a pendant light for downlights
  • Install a fan
  • Install a cooker point
  • Install a metal socket using steel armoured cable
  • Install interlinked smoke alarms for domestic properties
  • Earthing and bonding requirements
  • Understanding the different methods used to price jobs.
  • Fully answer all your questions related to the trade, you are taught by experienced tradesmen with a passion for the trade, ask as many questions as you wish during the course.
  • Full support after completing your course.  If you have any questions relating to anything that you have covered on your course you are free to contact your tutor or the centre, by telephone, by text message, by whatsapp, by email or by calling into the centre. There is no charge for this and you can call at anytime in the future.

Please note the electrical course is an introduction to domestic installations and completion of it will not allow you to complete electrical works.  I need to make you aware of this as some people think after completing a two-week course they can go out and rewire a house and sign it off.  You will need to complete further training e.g. Part P, 18th Edition, Testing & Inspection, NVQ Level 3 qualifications and gain approx. 2 years’ experience.

The cost of this electrical course is £1150 INC VAT.

You only need to bring yourself, work clothes and footwear and your lunch, we will provide everything else.

The course is 9 days in duration, Monday to Thursday from 9am until 5pm and Fridays and the last day from 9am until 3pm.

Our centre based in Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 2DJ.  Please arrive at the training centre at least 15 minutes before the course start time.

Support provided when choosing a course

We will provide you with as much information, advice and guidance as we possibly can and if we are not able to offer you the course that best suits your needs or give you the information you require we will signpost you to somewhere that is able to. We do not pressure you to book onto any course and if we feel that you would be better suited to a course we do not offer then we will give you the contact information of a college that does.

Hopefully the majority of the information you require is available on this website but if you have any questions at all then please contact us and we will help in any way we can.

We would like to invite you to attend the training centre to view the facilities and discuss the course with both the tutors and current learners. We suggest if possible that you visit our centre towards the end of a course as people in general are always happy at the beginning of training and you want to make sure that they are as happy at the end of the course. When you visit you will be free to discuss the course with current learners on a 1-to-1 basis, if someone has paid good money or used limited funding to attend a course and they are not happy they will definitely tell you. If you visit towards the end of a course you will also be able to see the standard that everyone on the course has achieved.

One of the most popular comments we receive on questionnaires is that people did not expect to reach the high standard that they do on a course, it is also one of the most popular negative comments that we receive by people who are not aware of what we offer as they will say ‘you won’t be any good after 10 days’, if you yourself are unsure then why not pop down for a pressure free look around.

During Training

During your time with us every member of staff will do their best to help you achieve your aims. You will be provided with supporting literature relating to your trade and have access to further reading to research the trade further in your own time.

If you struggle on any element of the course then we will provide additional training at no extra cost to ensure that you reach the required standard.

If you have any learning difficulties or disabilities or have any physical difficulties or disabilities then we will support you throughout and this additional support will remain between the centre and the individual. The majority of the training courses are practical based but if you do have any concerns then please contact the centre.

We will also provide you with additional IAG relating to progression routes available after completing the course including further training, finding employment and starting to work for yourself. Whilst on a course please contact a member of staff if you require any further in information.Whilst you are at the centre there may be other courses running so if you have any questions relating to another trade please feel free to speak to the relevant tutor – they are all here to help you.

After Training

We will continue supporting you after you have completed a course with us and you can contact us either by email, phone or in person to discuss any aspects that you covered on your course. For example you may wish to contact us to clarify how to complete a job or how to price a job or maybe to ask for information on writing a business plan.

Your tutors will give you their contact telephone numbers and email address so if you have any questions at all you can give them a call. It is invaluable to have this continuous support available and will give you the confidence to complete work away from the centre.

The commitment to putting the needs of learners at the heart of everything the service does was demonstrated in the ways support is provided. Extract from Matrix Assessment Report

Learning a new skill was what I needed to better my chances for a career change.  The tutor and college made every aspect of the course interesting/useful from start to finish.  Probably one of the most understanding companies I’ve come across. Helped me with health issues whilst on course – Martin Pearson

I was apprehensive prior to the course thinking I won’t understand a lot of the current, amps, wattage, but the course has been brilliant, and I am now considering continuing training in an apprenticeship to become an electrician due to the enjoyment of the course.  C Curtis, April 2025

I enjoyed the challenge tasks.  It made me understand the circuits more clearly and have hands on tools and materials.   Tutors are always helpful and very approachable.  They give us tips on any projects we are undertaking.  They also answer the phone even after the courses are over.  Anon, April 2025

I was nervous about doing this course as electrics have always confused me, not now.  Daves instruction, the gradual accumulation of knowledge & application to real life has been great.  I found the most useful the problem solving at the end – helping me to apply learning & show I could use it to solve a real-life problem.  I would recommend this course to others.  P LeFeuvre, April 2025

Superb environment focused on learning.  It was great fun.  Most interesting was correctly connecting an SWA cable at both ends using glands.  I also enjoyed the lighting circuit challenges.   I can’t wait to come back in September.  S Duckers, April 2025

The environment was very relaxed, and instructors have deep understanding and experience in their field.  The tutor answered every question we had and went above and beyond to get us through the course.  Thank you.  It has been one of the best course I have been on.  I Matacagi, April 2025

Having no previous experience, this has provided me with confidence to be able to replace components and extend current electrics with ease.  Daves advice on personal projects was invaluable and is above and beyond the remit of the course.  There was a relaxed nature that is great for learning.  Even with the increase in difficulty the tutor support ensured that the student was able to rectify personally.  Thank you for a great course.  S. Myers-Evans, February 2025

The course is well structured and covers all the basic skills needed to undertake domestic electrics.  The college is well organised, in a good location with a wide variety of courses available.  The instructors have a very good amount of experience and deliver the training really well.  Thank you for a very enjoyable and relaxed learning environment.  J Picken, February 2025

Really enjoyed the course.  Dave not only delivered a great tutoring, he also went on to show tricks of the trade and gave us some advanced circuits to try to really nail home the skills taught which I am extremely grateful for.  J Brown, February 2025

Really enjoyed the course and leave with far more knowledge than I expected.  Provides a solid foundation for anyone who wants to learn about domestic electrical systems.  R Jones, February 2025

The most interesting/useful was practical work and assessments with more advanced tasks given to get your thinking on your own instead of simply copying what is shown.  Friendly & supportive tutors and environment.  M Young, February 2025

This is my third course, and I have enjoyed all of them.  I have used up my ELCAS credits, but have booked 3 more using my own money for these as I believe the courses are excellent value for money.  I would recommend this course because it is good value for money and taught at the right level.  From knowing very little about domestic electrics, I now feel confident to identify problems, installing domestic electrics with the correct materials and regulations.  Anon, December 2024.

As a military person I’m a practical learner, the facility provided during the training is outstanding and really allowed me to fully understand the theory based knowledge when getting hands on.  The facilities are amazing, the tutors knowledge and ability to pass that on in his way at teaching, again was outstanding.  Thank you.  D Baikie, December 2024

For me the most useful part of the course was an overall understanding of how electrical systems work in a property.  It is worth the money, tutor and learning environment are the best.  Overall, I am really happy with the course you have provided.  Found easy to communicate to book my course.  Tutors are genuinely helpful, friendly and very experienced, with tons of lived experience.  Thanks for everything.  T Pun, December 2024

The course was well taught and well run.  Moreover, the mix of theory and practical is fabulous.  The whole course was incredibly useful and interesting.  There are some parts such as installing an SWA that I personally will never do, however now knowing sockets and plugs as well as the wiring theory is incredibly useful.  Anon, September 2024

I enjoyed all of it, but the lighting circuits were the area I really had to think.  A brilliant course ran really well.  Thank you.  C Ellis, September 2024

What I found the most interesting was the last project, where I had to plan and route 4 types of circuit and I could choose whichever method of lighting circuit.  Great learning environment with plenty of resources.  D Subba, September 2024

More Training for your Money.

Although our plumbing courses are short they are very intensive and you will be in your bays soldering on day 1.  The only way you are going to learn to solder is by having a blowtorch in your hand and practicing, practicing, practicing.

It is very important to know about the different plumbing systems within a property and how this affects the work you plan to complete.  For example, one shower may be suitable for one property but not another.  It is also important to know how to complete repairs and maintenance work.  Our courses are a good mix of theory and practical and are delivered by a gas-safe plumbing and heating engineer who has over 35 years experience of working in the trade and still has his own plumbing company and over 15 years experience teaching plumbing courses at our centre.

Regular Start Dates.

We have plumbing courses starting every two weeks, throughout the year.  We do not close for bank holidays, half terms, college summer holidays.  We only close for two weeks at Christmas.  Please feel free to contact Dave on 01782 837007 or via enquiries@tradeteacher.co.uk or dave.hare@tradeteacher.co.uk and he will work with you to plan dates.

The course was packed with incredibly useful information, providing me with more details, content and understanding than I thought possible in 2 weeks.  Outstanding content.  The instruction is exceptionally good and the atmosphere is welcoming with a tremendous fun, but hard working & professional learning environment.  This is my second course here – I have been genuinely gobsmacked at the quality, depth and skill of the instructors as well as the tremendous content covered during the course.  I am extremely impressed and hope to come back for courses in the future.  John Townsend, 10 day plumbing and heating course

PI would recommend this course to others.  Great instruction throughout the course and loads of additional help with own projects.  Anyone wishing to get into this industry I think it is a great place to learn. Gavin Revel, 10 day plumbing and heating course

I came to gain confidence in copper piping but found the holistic approach to all tasks very enlightening.  Each distinct job was put into the whole system context.  As a retired surveyor I had a (loose) grasp of plumbing systems but found this course brilliant.  Exceeded my expectations.  Gained the necessary confidence to tackle what I previously considered big complex tasks. Mr P Lilley, 10 day plumbing and heating course
