City & Guilds 7303 - Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

Who is the course for?

The purpose of this City and Guilds 7303 scheme is to provide an introduction for those who wish to train or teach. It is a qualification that will equip a wide range of trainers, facilitators and teachers to support learners.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but candidates must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve / or have achieved a qualification and experience for their subject/skill at the appropriate level.

In addition, the nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualification is such that candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification they are taking, read and interpret written tasks, and to write answers in a legible and understandable form.

The qualification is designed to enable candidates to:

  • Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching
  • Reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and areas for development
  • Identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation
  • Develop confidence, communication and inter-personal skills
  • Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities.

The 5 sections in the City and Guilds 7303 Course are:

  • Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
  • Understand teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Demonstrate session planning skills
  • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Duration and Cost

5 days in duration, from 9am until 4pm either Monday to Friday or over 5 consecutive Saturdays. Please arrive at the training centre at least 15 minutes before the course start time.

The cost of this course is £495 INC VAT and there are no hidden extra costs. You only need to bring yourself and your lunch, we will provide everything else - there is even free tea and coffee.

We ask for a non-refundable deposit of £80 to secure your place on a course and full payment 10 days prior to the course start date.   • The level of the C&G 7303 scheme is appropriate for you
  • You are able to interpret written tasks and write your answers in a legible, clear coherent form
  • The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award is for those who are or who want to be a teacher, tutor or trainer and need to be able to plan, prepare and implement learning for a specialist area. PTLLS is the initial award, which has been developed to provide a threshold licence to teach in the FE sector in England.

This qualification is a requirement for all those who are new to teaching, training or tutoring in publicly funded provision. The course is also for trained tutors or teachers who want to update their underpinning knowledge and teaching or training skills.

Who needs to be qualified to teach?

From September 2007, all new entrants to teaching in the FE sector will be required to complete a new award which will prepare them to teach. This new level 3 qualification is called Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS for short.)

PTLLS will be mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision and by 2010 all those in receipt of government funding who teach will have to be qualified.

What is the definition of a “teacher”?

A teacher is any trainer, assessor, or member of staff who delivers learning to one or more learners. This can be in a classroom or at the employers’ premises and includes the running of group inductions or the provision of underpinning knowledge for NVQs.
