Maintenance Operator Training
We have received a number of calls from people who are looking at learning new skills as they are interested in gaining employment in maintenance.
Enquiries have been from customers who are already expereinced in a number of trades but are finding it difficult because they don't have skills in enough trades, for example, they only need to know how to plaster or complete carpentry work - If this is the case then I suggest completing one of our standard courses in the trade that you require training.
If you are currently unskilled and are thinking about training then I would suggest reading job adverts in your local area to find out what trades are popular. Our research has told us that the following trades are ideal
- Plumbing
Plastering
Carpentry - Possibly Tiling and Painting and Decorating
We offer all of the above courses and further details can be found within this website.
L2 NVQ Diploma in Maintenance Operations - OSAT
We have received a number of enquires from people who are currently completing work in a maintenance role or are completing general building work that consists of working in multiple trades but do not have a NVQ. They obviously wish to acheive an NVQ but 'Don't want to go back to college to be taught what they already know'. The good news is that it is possible to acheive a NVQ via On Site Assessment if:
- you are experienced in enough of the trades listed below to meet the minimum number of required credits.
- you are currently employed in a role (either PAYE or self employed) that is related to those trades and you have work planned in that would enable our assessment team to assess you completing the work
If you meet the two initial criteria above then please contact the office on 01782 837007 to discuss the qualification and assessment in full and to ensure that you are eligble for this type of assessment. Below is a basic overview of the process for OAST assessment.
Units within the L2 Maintenance Operations NVQ Dilpoma include; carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, drainage, painting and decorating, roofing and masonry. For full details of the units within the qualification please contact the centre on 01782 837007
Overview of OSAT
As an NVQ approved assessment centre, Construction Skills College are able to offer you the opportunity to acheive your NVQ Level 2 via on site assessment (OSAT).
Who is this course suitable for?
To be eligible for assessment through the OSAT route you must either have underpinning qualifications or who have spent some time working within the industry and have reached a level of competence which falls in line with NVQ Occupational Standards.
As long as you are working and completing work in the trades within the maintenance qualification then we can come and assess you in the workplace.
The Assessment Process
Contact the centre to discuss the suitability of the qualification for your needs.
During your induction your assessor will discuss the qualification, structure, contents and assessment methods. You will discuss if any further training is necessary and an action plan and timetable will be produced.
You will be required to gather and record evidence of work you are completing, as discussed during your induction we will provide you with supporting documents to assist you with this.
Your assessor will then arrange to visit you at your place of work to assess and discuss your work and evidence. The number of visits is dependent on individual circumstances.
You will need to complete a health and safety test.
Once the assessor is satisfied that you have acheived the required standard for the units within the qualification they will infomr you that you have acheived the qualification and you will recieve a certificate and a trade related CSCS card.
The time it takes to achieve an NVQ Diploma via OSAT can be dependent on the the amount of work you have planned in and if this work is varied enough for the qualification. As a guide it can take anything from a few weeks to 12 months to acheive, please contact the centre to discuss this further.
