Since 1st January 2005, electrical installation work in dwellings and associated land has come under the scope of Part P of the Building Regulations. In line with safety standards, most electrical work must either be notified to the local authority’s building control or carried out by a firm registered with a Competent Persons Scheme.  This domestic electrical installers course including full scope part p is aimed at those who want to undertake installation work on domestic properties and whose aim it is to be registered on a competent persons scheme.

Who is the qualification for?

Government-licensed Competent Persons Schemes offer a route for companies to tackle Part P without submitting a building notice or using an approved inspector.  The Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers is suitable for those who carry out electrical work in association with or for their main work activity under the scope of Part P.   Successful candidates will have achieved the understanding of a domestic electrical installer (though not an electrician) and will be able to demonstrate their knowledge to be nominated as a ‘Qualified Supervisor’ with a Competent Persons Scheme.

This course is suitable for people who wish gain an industry recognised qualification to enable them to register with a Competent Person Self-Certification Scheme such as those offered by NICEIC or ELECSA ( Elecsa Part P Info ).  Once you have registered with such a scheme you can self-certify your installation work and provide your customers with a Part P compliant certificate.  PLEASE NOTE:  You will need the 17th edition qualification to register on a scheme.

This course is aimed at people with prior knowledge and experience in domestic installations or those that have attended our 5 day foundation electrical course.

Course Objectives

This qualification was developed under the guidance of industry, colleges and training associations with a number of objectives in mind, namely to:

  • Give the candidate an understanding of the skills and competencies required by someone carrying out electrical installation work in dwellings.
  • Provide the domestic electrical installation industry with a pool of staff with a national recognised qualification, which covers the Building Regulation requirements.
  • Provide a qualification, which will allow candidates to apply for registration a ‘qualified supervisor’ with a Competent Persons Scheme.
  • Provide a popular qualification for candidates to establish the competences required to carry out electrical installation work in dwellings.

The objective of the Qualification is to impart the necessary understanding and competence related to the installation of standard circuit arrangements in domestic installations. This includes an understanding of the implications of legislation to this activity and the requirements for testing and certification of new installation work in dwellings.  On successful completion of the qualification the candidate will have achieved recognised competences to undertake the installation of standard circuits and certificate and verify that they meet the requirements of BS 7671 as detailed in the On Site Guide.

This qualification has been developed in close consultation with the ECA, NICEIC, CORGI, and industry to ensure that the qualification meets the requirements of Part P. It assesses the knowledge and competence of the candidates against typical domestic electrical installation work.

The Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers features the following nine mandatory units.
