5 Day Foundation Electrical Course

This course has been designed as a practical based training course aimed at people who have little or no experience of electrical installations and are looking to take the first step on the ladder.  The course is 75% practical and throughout the course you will have your own tools, materials, certificate and test equipment (the multi function testers we use are Megger 1552 / 53).  The aim of the course is to give you the practical skills and basic understanding of domestic installations in preparation for further electrical courses and for becoming a registered domestic installer.

The course is taught by experienced electrical contractors and you will start the week with a blank test rig which throughout the 5 days you will;  fit a consumer unit from which you will install lighting circuits (1-way, 2-way and intermediate), ring circuits and radial circuits.  You will test the installations and complete relevant certificates.

If you have little or no previous electrical experience then you will need to attend this course prior to attending the domestic installer and 17th edition courses.


Throughout the week you will complete the following units.

  • Understand how to carryout safe isolation procedures
  • Undertand earthing and bonding requirements
  • Know how to calculating cable sizes and calculating load demands
  • Connecting the following circuits to a consumer unit on your individual training bays

    • Installing ring main circuits (sockets)
    • Installing radial power circuits (cooker points etc)
    • Installing one way lighting circuits
    • Installing two way and intermediate lighting circuits
  • Testing of installations using a Megger tester and completing relevant certificates
  • Understand how to carry out fault finding.
  • Upon completion of the course you will receive full support from the centre and your tutor.  If you have any questions you only need to contact the centre by email or phone.

Duration and Cost.

5 Days in duration from 8am until 4pm at the Willenhall centre and from 9am until 5pm at the Stoke centre.  Please arrive at the centre at least 15 minutes prior to the course start time.

The cost of this course is £425 INC VAT and there are no hidden extra costs. You only need to bring yourself, work clothes, suitable footwear and your lunch, we will provide everything else - there is even free tea and coffee.

We ask for a non-refundable deposit of £100 to secure your place and full payment 10 days before the course start date.  if you wish to discuss other payment terms then please contact the centre on 01782 837007.  The deposit is subtracted from the total cost of the course, £100 deposit with £325 outstanding.
