Better West Midlands

Partnerships and Success Stories

Above is a short clip that was shown on Channel 4 when the Rt. Hon. James Purnell the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions visited our training centre to view the work we completed with Better West Midlands Redundancy Support Project.

Success Stories of people that came through the Better West Midlands Project:

After completing the tiling course I set up as a self employed tiler.  i now run a successful business.  The after course help that has been provided to me has been excellent.

Im doing really well since going self employed in September, have tiled two floors one was a kitchen and the other a large front room which I layed electric underfloor heating before tiling, plumbed in a bath and did a slate tile splash back around it. I have got two more jobs off the back of my last one, a wet room which im doing next week, and a hard wood tongue and groove floor that I am starting after the wetroom. I have also put a qoute in for a tiling job after Christmas. Thanks again for your great courses.                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Russell Gobby

A scheme to help people facing redundancy in the North Staffordshire area has been so successful it is now being rolled out across the whole of the region.  Nearly 3,000 people found new jobs through the support of the scheme, and more than 1,000 were given help to develop skills to improve their chances on the jobs market.  The project, run by trade union UNITY through the North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership (NSRP), gives immediate and specific support to people facing redundancy in North Staffordshire, including funding free skills courses.
