4 Week Plastering Course
This 4 week plastering course is ideal for those who wish to learn various aspects of the trade and be able to complete those areas to a high level of finish and who wish to complete the course with the confidence to complete a number of paid for plastering jobs in domestic houses. The course is ideal for people who wish to become employed or self employed as a domestic plasterer. The course also contains 8 days training in a domestic property within the Stoke-on-Trent area.
This 4 week course is very intensive and designed to keep your busy throughout. The course is practical based with supporting job knowledge sessions throughout and home study.
There are no more than 10 people on a course at any one time and each person will have their own training bay, tools and materials.

During the course you will cover the following units:
- Understand and carryout preparations required prior to plastering and gain knowledge of different backgrounds that receive plaster.
- Measure, cut and fix beading.
- Apply plaster to plaster-boarded walls which include internal and external angles.
- Apply plaster to previously plastered walls which include internal and external angles and added obstacles.
- Measure and cut plaster boards and understand the different boards available i.e. acoustic, fire, moisture, thermal, impact, standard, etc. and how to fix these different types of boards to different backgrounds.
- Fix plasterboards to solid walls using dot and dab technique, including internal and external angles and a window opening. One of the walls will also have metal electrical boxes fited to the walls (socket and switch)
- Apply plaster to a full ceiling and the ceiling is 2.4m off the floor so you have to use the correct access equipment.
- Patch and repair walls and ceilings, eg damaged walls or chased out walls.
- Apply plaster to a wall with various obstacles such as skirting board, archatrive, dado rail.
- Complete a City & Guilds assessment.
- Understand and carryout preparations required prior to plastering and gain knowledge of different backgrounds that receive plaster.
- Understand the different tools and equipment used in plastering.
- Understand the range of materials used in plastering including bonding, multi finish, different beads, PVA and Thistle Bond-It.
- Understanding the different methods used to price jobs, dealing with customers and overcoming problems that may arise. You will also be provided with support after completing your course and you are able to contact your tutor by email, phone or call into the training centre to discuss your queries.
- Fully answer all your questions related to the trade, you are taught by experienced tradesmen with a passion for the trade, ask as many questions as you wish during the course. You will never here anyone say 'We don't cover that on this course'; we employ experts in each field so they are able to answer all your questions
- Full support after completing your course. if you have any questions relating to anything that you have covered on your course you are free to contact your tutor or the centre, by telephone, email or by calling into the centre. There is no charge for this and you can call at anytime in the future
- Complete plastering training within a domestic property in Stoke-on-Trent. This element of the course will include producing estimates of time and materials needed to complete a number of jobs within the property and how to price the work. You will then complete 8 days plastering inside the property working in different sized rooms in a realistic environment.
- Complete training in applying a floating coat.

Duration and Cost
4 full weeks in duration, from 8am until 4pm at the Willenhall centre and from 9am until 5pm at the Stoke centre. Please arrive at the training centre at least 15 minutes before the course start time. NOTE: The training in a property is currently to be completed at a property in Stoke-on-Trent. It is possible to split the course into sections to suit your availability, for example, 2 weeks one month, 2 weeks another and two weeks later in the year.
The cost of this course is £1,800 INC VAT. You only need to bring yourself, work clothes, suitable footwear and your lunch, we will provide everything else - there is even free tea and coffee.

Additional Support
The course is very practical based and we will push you to complete as much plastering as possible, we will not scrimp on materials, you are here to learn art of plastering. The benfit of completing training within a domestic property is that it gives you more confidence to use the skills you have learned by using them in a realistic environment.
As well as the quality training listed above you will also:
- Be given access to an e-learning website that will include supporting information relating to plastering.
- You can complete your health and safety test at the centre and will fast track your application for a Construction Site Operatives CSCS card (at a cost of £50).
- If you wish you can register for a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction). NB There is an additional charge for this qualification.
We will also provide advice and guidance on setting up as a self employed plaster and will help you to put together a business plan and at no extra cost you are welcome to attend regular sessions that we offer on business start-up.
During your time with us you will learn and complete tasks that are related to those required to achieve a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction) - Solid (Basic) (QCF) but you will not be able to include these tasks in your NVQ portfolio as an NVQ is a work based qualification and the must be completed in a work environment and not a simulated / training environment. The benefit of completing the tasks at the centre and within a property is that it gives you a good understanding of what is required once you have finished your training with us.
Before you leave the centre your assessor will explain and discuss the units within the qualification and what is expected of you as a candidate to enable you to achieve the stated NVQ qualification. You will also be provided with documents that you can use to record evidence of work that you complete. The additional cost to be registered and assessed for an NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction) - Solid (Basic) (QCF) is £1000. We appreciate that this can be expensive when starting to work for yourself and it maybe something that you choose to complete at a later date.

Payment for the 4 week course only. Course cost = £1,800. Initial payment at the time of booking £1000 followed by 11 monthly payments of £100. Total amount repaid £2,100
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is designed for people with little or no previous experience and who wish to learn the key aspects of plastering. People attend this course because they wish to learn the skills to complete plastering work to a high standard and who want to become employed or self employed as a plasterer after completing the course.

Please Note: It is not possible to achieve an NVQ within a training centre as an NVQ qualification is work based and therefore has to be assessed within the workplace. You can either be working self employed or be employed by a company but you must be working to achieve the full qualification.
